Peter H. Reynolds & Angela Maiers Connect the Dots:
“Make Your Mark Matter!”
As a classroom educator for nearly 20 years, Angela Maiers discovered that at the very core, her approach to teaching focused first on telling every single student: “You Matter.” These two simple words, Angela learned, had the power to transform teaching and learning. She found that when her students believed they mattered, they put themselves at the center of their own learning. They became more engaged and more purposeful in their pursuit of learning. Students gained the courage and confidence to not only absorb information and knowledge, but also to create it. Angela began sharing her experience with others. And it resonated. In August 2011, Angela presented at a TEDx conference in Des Moines, IA. Entitled “You Matter,” Angela’s presentation ignited a movement. Now called Choose2Matter, this movement is about what can happen when people know they matter; what can happen when people know they have the power to make a mark on the world and choose to use it.
It seems like it was only a matter of time before Peter Reynolds and Angela Maiers would connect the dots. As Angela explains, “Peter has been a constant source of inspiration in my teaching and learning life; not only as an author/artist but as an advocate for the kind of education that every child and teacher deserves to know and experience.”
And so Peter and Angela, kindred spirits for sure, have joined forces to be sure their voices carry to every classroom in every corner of the world. Together, they want every student, every teacher and every person to know that each and every one of us has the power to make a mark on the world, because quite simply, each and every one of us matters. As Peter notes, “My mission to help all learners discover their voice and their potential – and to make their mark in a way that moves the world to a better place. That’s why Angela and I are are standing shoulder to shoulder this year to say, “Make Your Mark Matter!”
